A little girl (probably 5 years old) standing outside of my office today asked her mom, "Why do boys tickle girls?" I couldn't help but laugh. The mom just looked at me in obvious confusion. I could tell she had NO CLUE what to tell her little girl. So she said, "Honey, boys tickle girls because it makes them giggle. And boys like to make girls giggle."
I just sat there. I had no clue what to say or think. So I just thought, "why do boys think it is necessary to tickle girls?' I am 23 and boys still think it is necessary to tickle me. Case in point- last night. Is it so hard to say thank you and give a girl a hug without immediately decided to ruin the moment by tickling her? I mean, really?
Do boys tickle girls because they are completely immature and need the girls to be lowered down to their level and they figure they can accomplish that by making us laugh ridiculously hard?
Do boys tickle girls because they like the inevitable smile that comes to our faces, even though we just want to be angry?
Do boys tickle girls because it means they have them so close in their arms?
Do boys tickle girls as a way to express feeling they may not otherwise be able to state?
In all honesty, I have no idea. If someone could please tell me why that would be great! (and I would gladly call that mom and tell her why boys tickle girls).
